Pharmacology

Pharmacology is the study of firstly how drugs act on the body to produce their therapeutic effects, side effects and possible adverse reactions (pharmacodynamics) and, secondly, the absorption, distribution, metabolism and elimination of drugs from the body (pharmacokinetics). Pharmacology is particularly relevant in criminal cases involving drink, drugs and driving, drug-facilitated sexual assaults and the effect of drugs on an individual’s mental and physical capacity.
