Alex is a veterinary surgeon with Bachelor and Master of Science degrees in veterinary medicine and veterinary pathology, and undertook specialist training in veterinary anatomic pathology at the Royal Veterinary College to obtain Fellowship of the Royal College of Pathologists by examination.

 He is a Diplomate of Forensic Medical Sciences, a member of the Royal Society of Biology, Royal Society for Public Health, British Academy of Forensic Sciences, and Association of Lawyers for Animal Welfare. 

Alex is the Lead Forensic Veterinary Pathologist at ArroGen Veterinary Forensics and a Senior Research Fellow in Veterinary Pathology at the School of Veterinary Medicine, University of Surrey.  He is Visiting Professor of Veterinary Pathology at the University of Derby and Honorary Research Fellow at the Centre for Anatomy and Human Identification, University of Dundee.

Alex has conducted numerous forensic veterinary post-mortem examinations, and continues to perform routine diagnostic veterinary post-mortem examinations and diagnostic veterinary histopathology.  Alex lectures regularly, in veterinary pathology, neuropathology, and forensic pathology, including as an invited speaker, at national and international forensics conferences, and guest lectures at other academic institutions.  Alex has active research projects in forensic pathology, forensic science, veterinary pathology and neuropathology.
